Study of Quality Control in Central Sterile Supply Department of a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital

Image
Hospital acquired infection or “nosocomial infection” adversely affects both patients and hospitals. Impact of nosocomial infections ranges from increased length of hospital stay, emotional stress, disability, death of the patients as well as increased hospital cost for the patients and providers. Studies in India have reported nosocomial infection rates from 8% to 58 %. To combat these infections, hospital needs effective methods of disinfection and sterilization which has nowadays been centralized into a single department called Central Sterile Supply Department. In our study Outcome was measures by two parameters: a) User Satisfaction b) Microbial count It was found that in user satisfaction 70% of user end staff are satisfied with the services provided to them. In microbial count of different items sterilized showed that 89 % samples are sterile whereas 11% samples show growth of three different organisms e.g. Coagulase-negative staphylococci, Klebsilla and Act. Baumannii. ...

Development of a Textile Suture with Improved Properties

Image
In any surgical procedure, a suture is considered crucial. In the case of post-operative are the wound closure related to surgical procedure continues to pose a problem. Presently, Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (ORC) is being commonly used in the absorption of hemostatic materials. But ORC medical suture product is not commercially available. It has been aimed to produce innovative braided suture by TEMPO-mediated Oxidation Regenerated Cellulose (TORC) so as to obtain a suture material having and perfect in mechanical properties. A circular braiding machine has been used to produce sutures from regenerated cellulose strands. The braiding is followed by TEMPO-mediated oxidation treatment as an option. Various investigation techniques that include ATR-FTIR, electrical conductivity, XRD analysis, physical properties and in vitro degradation properties have been used to characterize the sutures under various oxidation time. It has been further shown that the RC sutures have been oxidized ...

Physical and Gynecological Outcomes among South African Women Survivors of Rape

Image
Introduction: South Africa has one of the highest rates of sexual violence against females in the world [1,2]. Residual outcomes among rape survivors in South Africa are complex, and include symptoms of depression, and post-traumatic stress (PTSS) [3,4] as well as physical and gynecological problems [5,6]. While South African rape survivors report physical and mental health symptoms [7]. We know little about the internal (i.e. self-management) and external (i.e. support from others) coping strategies that they use over time.   Objectives: This study conducted secondary analyses of South African female rape survivors who reported experiences of rape within six months of being interviewed and compared their physical and mental health, coping strategies, rape myths and social undermining of friends and families one year later. The goal is to foster a discussion of post-rape outcomes that may be utilized to develop recovery interventions for South African women rape survivors who may...

Giant Fibroadenoma-Radiologically Simulating Phyllodes Tumor: A Case Report of Unresolved Diagnostic Enigma

Image
Fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumor are fibroepithelial lesions, thus may have similar histopathological appearance and share overlapping clinical as well as radiological features. The distinction between these two lesions is clinically important as both lesions have different management. There is substantial overlap between fibroadenomas and phyllodes tumors. We present a similar case report of a 23 years-old female patient with classical radiological features of phyllodes tumor, which turned out to be a giant type of fibroadenoma on histopathology after surgical excision. Keywords: Giant fibroadenoma; Phyllodes; Mammography; Ultrasound; MRI Abbreviations: BIRADS: Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System Introduction Fibroadenoma is a benign lesion, accounting for well over half of breast tumors, while phyllodes tumor have spectrum of diseases ranging from benign to malignant lesions, accounting for 1% of all breast neoplasms [1]. Fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumor are fibroepith...

Cesarean Section Epidemic in Iranian Midwives_ Crimson publishers

Image
Cesarean Section Epidemic in Iranian Midwives by Somayeh M in Womens Health Journal Opinion In the last century, caesarean section (C/S) has played a positive role in settling pregnancy complications and reducing the fetal and maternal mortality, but a worrying issue in modern midwifery is the high rate of C/S. According to the World Health Organization, the C/S rate should not exceed 10-15% of all births in any part of the world, but published statistics in many parts of the world, especially in Iran, differed greatly from this ratio and are very higher. C/S is a major operation that has complications such as maternal death, hemorrhage, infection , need for blood transfusion, dense internal adhesions, thromboembolic, urinary retention, bladder injury, and anesthetic complication. Furthermore, an increase in the rate of C/S in a country may cause a high cost to the health system. In recent decades, it seems that there is a general tendency for C/S among both health care ...

An Assessment of the Effect of Team Building on Team Performance in Gutu District, Masvingo Province, 2010 by Pomerai KW in Womens Health Journal Abstract Introduction: Lack of team work is a major problem in civil service in Zimbabwe. Poor team work leads to reduced performance in a team. Gutu district performed very little for the past three years and a baseline survey showed lack of team work. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of team building on team performance. Methods: A before and after quasi experimental study was conducted. District managers were study participants. A baseline survey was conducted to determine views on key leadership issues, such as convening meetings, managing conflict, planning and communication. Next, a five-day team building retreat was conducted in a secluded area away from the district. After the team building exercise, participants were observed for three months to assess improvement in planning, convening meeting...

Humanized GHR106 Monoclonal Antibody is a Biosimilar GnRH Antagonist_ Crimson Publishers

Image
Humanized GHR106 Monoclonal Antibody is a Biosimilar GnRH Antagonist by Gregory Lee in Gynecology journal_ Open access journal of Gynecology GHR106 is a monoclonal antibody generated against human GnRH receptor. The humanized forms of GHR106 exhibit almost identical biological properties to those of decapeptide GnRH antagonists such as Antide and Cetrorelix . The biosimilarity between these two GnRH receptor ligands was based on the studies of (1) binding affinity and specificity as well as immunohistochemical staining, (2) induced apoptosis to cancer cells and (3) effects of ligand- receptor bindings on gene regulations of cancer cells. Furthermore, the half-life of GHR106 antibody can be reduced from days to hours by means of antibody fragmentations to (Fab’)2 or Fab. The results of these biosimilar studies suggest that humanized GHR106 with IgG4 isotype can be utilized clinically with biosimilar functions as antibody -based GnRH antagonist except, with higher molecular size and lon...

Endometrioid Borderline Tumor Related to Ovarian Endometriosis_Crimson Publishers

Image
Endometrioid Borderline Tumor Related to Ovarian Endometriosis by  Anna Protasova in  Gynecology Research & Womens Health Endometrioid borderline tumor (EBT), also known as atypical proliferative endometrioid tumor, accounts for 0.2% of ovarian neoplasmas and 2-3% of borderline ovarian tumors. Very little is known about the prognosis and management of this entity. It is important to correctly diagnose these rare tumors in young women to assure proper treatment and to prevent mortality and preserve fertility. https://crimsonpublishers.com/igrwh/fulltext/IGRWH.000520.php For more open access journals in Crimson publishers please click on the link https://crimsonpublishers.com/ For more articles in Gynecology Research & Womens Health please click on the link https://crimsonpublishers.com/igrwh/ Follow On Publons  : https://publons.com/publisher/6342/crimson-publishers Follow On Linkedin : https://www.linkedin.com/company/crimsonpublishers
